Upon experiencing the Zuggiblubbi Adventure Trail, I recall thinking I wish I had done it when my children were much younger.
This year was our first time doing the Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail, and my children are already in primary school. Though they really enjoyed the trail, I think that the trail is more suitable for younger kids.Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail is an easy 4.5-kilometer hike on Zugerberg, right above the city of Zug.

Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail: How To Get There
Zugerberg is quite accessible by public transportation. You simply have to travel to Zug and then pursue the Zugerbahn at Schönegg. You can also drive directly to Zugerberg in your car. But those who are familiar with mountain streets know that there is only room for one car on the road. If a car is coming from the other direction, one of the two must give way and reverse up or down the mountain until there is enough room for both cars. You would be better off parking in Schönegg, taking the funicular, and then going up Zugerberg.
I would also like to point out that the Zugerbahn train going up and down from Zug to Zugerberg is not continuous. Rather, it runs every half hour. Therefore, I would take note of the departure times and plan accordingly. Arriving at the station and realizing that you missed the departure by a minute would be a real disappointment.
Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail for Kids
You can easily do the Zuggiblubbi Adventure trail with younger children still in strollers up to those in pre-school age. It is a fun hike with lots of game posts and play elements. Children between 2 to 6 of age will have no trouble tackling the length and difficulty of this adventure trail. They can do everything, play at each station, and find the treasures easily.

The Zugerberg ghost Zuggiblubbi is friendly, smiling, and always there for you. You will travel with him along the Zuggiblubbi Adventure Trail. In addition to giving directions and information regarding the trail and the missing treasures, he also provides the maps.

What is theZugiblubbi Adventure Trail?
Zugiblubbi trail begins directly after Zugerberg Mountain Station. You can follow the signs from there. The Zuggiblubbi Adventure Trail also includes a Diamond Treasure Hunt.
Zugiblubbi Game Posts
The game posts were nicely designed and reminded me of an amusement park with all these animals (frogs, owls, mice). Furthermore, they were able to see stunning views of Central Switzerland (Rigi, Zug).
- A – Start of Zuggiblubbi Adventure Trail (Start Erlebnisweg) is right near the Zugerberg Mountain Station.
- B – Wooden Path (Holzrugelpfad) is amidst trees and every now and then fantastic views of Zug and its lake.
- C – Fairy Tale Stories (Märchentafeln) is spread out across several story boards. The stories last around 5 minutes each and will likely have to be read by an adult.
- D – Quiet Island (Ruheinsel) is across the corn fields and soon near the Amadeus Frog.
- E – Amadeus the Frog (Moorfrosch Amadeus) explains the Diamond Treasure Hunt and the story behind the hidden diamonds.
- F – Schattwäldli (Erdmannli Dorf, Schattwäldli) is the playground as shown in the image at the top of this page. It is also the start of Diamond Treasure Hunt.
- G – Tree Root Path (Wurzelpfad) is only for those who are going without the strollers. Those with strollers will have to take the longer way on the paved road.
- H – Forest Animal Tracks (Tierspuren) shows the various animal footprints, even translated into English.
On the playground, there was also plenty of fun stuff to do. There was a swing, a flying fox, and a playhouse with wooden walkways.
Diamond Treasure Hunt
The Diamond Treasure Hunt begins after the Schattwäldli Game Post. There will be a series of posts almost near each other where you will have to find the diamond, note the letter, and write it down on your Zuggiblubbi card.
The diamonds are easy to find (with the exception of the fourth diamond), and even our kids had a great time searching for them and writing letters on their Zuggiblubbi cards. After you complete the letters, you will discover the secret word.
The kids can leave their completed cards in the Zuggiblubbi box as soon as you learn the secret word. As a result, they will be entered into a random drawing to determine if they will win a prize. The box can be found near the Zugerberg mountain station entrance.

Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail: Dining Options
At the playground, they had benches, tables, and picnic mats for those who wanted to eat. They even had normal toilets instead of plastic mobile ones.
For those who do not intend to bring their own food, there are two restaurants on the trail. On the Adventure Trail itself, shortly before the hot metal wire diamond post is Restaurant Hintergeissboden. And at the beginning and/or end of the trail is the second one – Restaurant Zugerberg.
Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail: Summary
Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail For Families
Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail is the perfect day trip for families with young children living in and around Zug, Lucerne, and Zurich. The length of the route is only 4.5 kilometers. For those with strollers, a paved path is provided so that even persons with newborns and really young children can easily hike the trail. Further, the trail is clearly marked (at least on the trail we took).
Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail is really quite interesting. Even if it is only 4.5 kilometers in length, there are still so many play elements that will encourage the children to run, balance, tickle their feet, and look for treasures. For those who can read and write, they can complete the Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail cards themselves.
In case you can, choose the non-stroller route since there are so many tree roots in the forest. The kids will be able to jump around the tree roots and see the cute, little wild animals. Considering the map, I suspect the stroller route is simply a paved path with no play elements.
Other Alternatives on Zugerberg
If the Zugiblubbi Adventure Trail is not for you, there are numerous other hiking and biking paths. Zugerberg offers a great view of Zug and its surroundings. It is a nice, little mountain you can easily visit, especially when it’s foggy in the plains. If you are on Zugerberg, it is very likely that you will enjoy sunshine above the fog level.
There are other easy hikes for families on Zugerberg. Hikes 1 and 5 are stroller-friendly. The following 5 hikes can be done with the young ones:
